News Flash: The Sacramento Kings Are Good Again…

How many old folks out there remember the “Glory Years” of The Sacramento Kings NBA Team? Let me take you back to 1998 – 25 years ago – when The Kings traded for a reluctant Chris Weber, who joined a feisty team roster that included a dynamic Jason Williams, Corliss Williamson and L.A. Lakers alum Vlade Divac. Weber’s reluctance soon melted away, as the local community embraced his arrival and the team began winning (remember: The Golden State Warriors were TERRIBLE during this time, so the upstart Kings and their new winning ways were something people really gravitated toward). By the 2000-2001 season The Kings were really steamin’, Baby…taking on the dreaded Lakers (and the rest of the league) with awesome new players like Peja Stojakovic, Doug Christie and Mike Bibby…and don’t forget the great Bobby Jackson (who’s Vacaville-based Basketball Clinic made him a guest on KUIC’s Hometown Morning Show more than once!). They came within a Peja missed 3 pointer of moving on to the NBA Finals in the 2001-2002 season, and never got back to that hallowed ground again. Weber was traded in 2005, and their last playoff appearance (and Hall of Fame Coach Rick Adelman’s last season) was 2006. Are we back? Well, as of this writing we’re #3 in The Western Conference…ahead of all the usual titans of The NBA on The West Coast…National Sports Media is still ignoring us (as usual), but the world will be forced to deal with King’s Nation if the team can keep up its winning ways. #LightTheBeam
