Use The Month Of “Movember” To Get Checked And Stay Healthy
For those not familiar with the term, “Movember” is a month-long awareness campaign that takes place during the month of November, where people grow mustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues. According to sources, the name is a combination of the Australian-English word for mustache, “Mo”, and “November.” Activities surrounding Movember raise funds for research and programs that focus on men’s health issues, including prostate cancer screening, mental health treatment access and suicide prevention. One such activity is the “Movember Mustache” Party and Fundraiser for Men’s Mental Health Awareness at The Jelly Belly Candy Factory in Fairfield on November 9th from 1:00pm to 6:00pm (more info at www.JellyBelly.com). This is a particularly important subject for me; I blogged about my BPH diagnosis two years ago and how I was (and still am) so grateful to find resources and support regarding treatment options and quality-of-life concerns. I can underscore enough how critical early screening is for successful treatment of prostate-related issues; when caught early, the percentages for successful treatment skyrocket. If you’re a man aged 50 or older, at average risk for health concerns, consider getting screened. What you don’t know CAN hurt you, but what you DO know can save you!
