Concert Review: Psychedelic Furs
Brit rockers Psychedelic Furs packed the Masonic on Saturday night 11/2 with openers Frankie Rose plus Jesus and Mary Chain. The last time the Furs performed at the Masonic was back in July 2018 before the pandemic. Since then, they dropped their 2020 album ‘Made of Rain’ in which the group played a couple of tracks (The Boy That Invented Rock & Roll and Wrong Train) for their fifteen song set. The crowd went wild singing and dancing to their hits “The Ghost In You”, “All That Money Wants”, “Love My Way”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Heartbreak Beat” and so forth. Although, I would’ve liked to have heard “Angels Don’t Cry”, “Imitation of Christ”, “Midnight to Midnight” and “Until She Comes”. Saxophonist Mars Williams, who sadly passed away, was the missing element in making the performance feel whole.
Frontman Richard Butler is 68 years old, but his age doesn’t stop him from dominating the stage. Constantly moving left to right, everyone got their fair share of seeing Richard and his brother Tim Butler who still looks cool even at 65. Amazingly, Richard still sounds the same like he did during his prime years with the Furs. He even still does his animated gestures, which is a staple to every Psychedelic Furs show. There were even younger generations in the audience thanks to their parents who shared Furs music with them. It goes to reveal that Psychedelic Furs music will remain forever and they are grateful.
