Community Art Event Empowers Youth to Take Action on Key Issues: Mental Health, Bullying, and Youth Homelessness, Saturday, August 17th at the Solano Mall.
Solano Youth Voices, a program of the Children’s Network of Solano County, is coordinating a Youth Open Art Studio in partnership with several youth organizations and artists from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm at Solano Town Center.
Artists will be available to work with young people ages 10-25 in a variety of mediums such as painting, photography, sculpting, mixed media, and more. Art will be displayed at the Youth Voices Art Reception on September 13th. Donations of art supplies and gift cards for this event are especially needed to ensure that all interested youth can participate.
Youth will be given the tools and support to create art inspired by the issues of Mental Health, Bullying, and Youth Homelessness in response to a county-wide needs assessment for youth where young people identified these priority issues (www.solanoyouthvoices.org/policy-platform). More than 700 youth participated in the assessment through focus groups and/or surveys; youth voice is a central feature of spreading awareness and taking action on these issues. The Youth Open Art Studio event is a great way for even more youth to build awareness while exercising creativity and building confidence.
Donations and volunteers are gratefully accepted. Please contact Youth Leadership Coordinator, Alyssum Maguire, with questions or to donate/volunteer: Call/Text 530-520-1676 or email email@example.com
