The Othello Project at Solano Community College

July 24th - August 3rd
Solano Community College, Fairfield

Solano Community College Theater presents, The Othello Project, a rehearsal and presentation of Shakespeare’s “Othello.” The project is an opportunity for three (3) African American students to play the iconic role of the Moor, Othello.  This summer, each actor will perform the part four (4) times – two (2) performances inside and two (2) performances outside - for a total of 12 performances. Thus, the actors will learn Shakespeare by “doing,” and will learn performance techniques unique to each performance space. The “Othello Project” actors include three (3) Iago’s (one female, two male) and a world of modern-day military in Venice and on Cyprus. Join us on the Fairfield campus of Solano Community College as we explore the words and story of a great love and the fall of a great man.

Solano College Theatre Summer Shakespeare Company is comprised of students who not only act in the show, but also design and build the set, as well as fabricate the costumes. In addition, the students work on all of the technical aspects of mounting a production under the direction of Carla Spindt.
